The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.23% Friday, its highest level since 2007, as heavy government and corporate bond issuance emerged as a primary driver of the increase. While persistent inflation and expectations for additional Federal Reserve rate hikes contributed to the move, bond market supply has become the dominant factor this year. Consumer sentiment data showed year-ahead inflation expectations rose to 4.6% in September from 4% in August, the highest reading since June. Fed funds futures indicate a 64% probability of a rate hike in October. Analysts noted the elevated yields reflect a robust investment cycle and substantial debt financing needs rather than extreme inflation pressures or aggressive Federal Reserve tightening.
