ABF Freight is integrating two Tesla Semis into its fleet to assess the viability of electric vehicles across its linehaul operations, the LTL carrier announced Thursday. The trucks will initially operate in California with planned extension to Nevada and potentially additional routes. The deployment follows a three-week pilot in 2025 that showed the electric semi performing comparably to diesel equipment. ABF Freight plans to evaluate total cost of ownership, safety, reliability, and driver satisfaction. The carrier will also assess performance metrics across its network to determine whether heavy-duty electric vehicles can meet operational standards equivalent to its existing diesel fleet. Potential fuel cost savings could eventually offset the higher equipment expenses, supporting long-term scalability decisions.
