ACIA Aero Leasing has delivered the world's first ATR 72-600 passenger-to-freighter conversion equipped with a large cargo door to FedEx. The aircraft, registered MSN 1239, arrived on October 15, marking a significant capability addition to the turboprop freighter market. The 8-metre cargo door allows operators to transport larger consignments and palletised freight. Empire Aerospace completed the conversion work, including installation of the cargo door system. ACIA initiated its conversion programme for the ATR 72-600 series in 2024, following earlier delays. FedEx purchased the freighter in July 2025, with the original delivery target set for December 2025. The Ireland-based lessor manages a fleet exceeding 50 regional passenger and freighter aircraft deployed across more than 23 countries, with additional offices in France, the UK and South Africa.
