Two competing bidder groups are positioning themselves to acquire a strategic stake in Copasa, Brazil's major water and sanitation utility owned by Minas Gerais state. A consortium comprising Itausa SA, Singapore's GIC sovereign wealth fund, and Equipav Saneamento SA is preparing to bid. Aegea is also pursuing a potential bid after securing up to $1 billion in fresh capital from existing shareholders, including GIC and Itaúsa. The competing interests reflect significant investor appetite for Brazil's water sector, as the state government advances its privatization plan for one of Brazil's largest utilities this year.
