Air Canada and Avianca have signed a joint business agreement aimed at commercial integration across passenger and cargo operations. The partnership grants Air Canada expanded access to South American markets while providing Avianca new pathways to European and Asian connections. Abra Group, which controls both Avianca and GOL, supports the initiative. Both carriers are prioritizing cargo collaboration alongside passenger synergies—a distinction from typical airline partnerships. Air Canada's cargo leadership emphasized the agreement would enhance customer experience and global connectivity across the Americas. The carriers maintained an existing interline cargo agreement that executives described as functional but underutilized. Matthieu Casey, Air Canada's managing director of commercial cargo, noted the new arrangement would unlock greater partnership potential. Avianca has pursued multiple airline partnerships in recent years. In late 2025, Avianca signed an agreement with Turkish Airlines that launched B777 freighter service connecting Istanbul and Liege to Miami.
