Air Canada Cargo Earns IATA Lithium Battery Safety Certification

Air Canada Cargo has obtained IATA's Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Lithium Batteries certification for lithium battery shipments. The certification validates compliance with global safety standards for handling and transporting these shipments. Demand in the air cargo sector continues to grow, driven by consumer electronics, medical devices, electric vehicles and energy storage industries. Air Canada completed a comprehensive operational review and underwent independent IATA audits. These covered documented procedures and included an on-site assessment at Montréal–Trudeau International Airport. Dangerous goods specialists from warehouse operations and cargo management personnel completed specialized IATA training on lithium battery handling protocols required for certification. The achievement follows Air Canada Cargo's existing CEIV Pharma and CEIV Live Animals certifications. Janet Wallace, managing director of cargo operations and transformation at Air Canada, said the certification demonstrates operational discipline and provides customer confidence that complex, regulated shipments meet rigorous international standards.
