Airbus has increased its long-term freighter aircraft forecast despite tempering expectations for cargo volume expansion. The manufacturer projects the global dedicated freighter fleet will grow 46% to 3,460 aircraft by 2045, up from 3,420 predicted last year. To meet these requirements, Airbus forecasts 2,670 freighter deliveries: 1,090 to address demand growth and 1,580 to replace retired aircraft. Single-aisle models will comprise 1,140 deliveries, with 860 mid-size and 670 large widebody aircraft needed. Airbus expects 970 new-builds and 1,700 converted passenger jets. The revised forecast reflects a downward adjustment in annual cargo growth to 3%, yet emphasizes freighter importance for high-value shipments. Technology goods doubled in air cargo value over three years, reaching 15% in 2026. North America and Asia Pacific will drive two-thirds of demand, requiring 925 and 850 aircraft respectively.
