A bispecific antibody treatment developed by Akeso and Summit Therapeutics demonstrated a 34% reduction in death risk for patients with squamous non-small-cell lung cancer. Results from the Phase 3 Harmoni-6 trial were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting. The drug, ivonescimab, extended median survival by four months when paired with chemotherapy compared to standard immunotherapy combinations. The trial was conducted exclusively in China, with a global Phase 3 study currently underway. Ivonescimab targets both PD-1 and VEGF pathways, positioning it within an emerging class of dual-action cancer treatments. The result marks a significant milestone for the treatment approach, though experts note the China-only trial data raises questions about applicability to other patient populations.
