Alaska Air Cargo is leveraging a new daily passenger route between Seattle and London Heathrow to extend its international footprint. The service commenced May 21, enabling the carrier to move time-sensitive cargo including Pacific Northwest seafood, automotive components, motorcycles, and health and wellness products to European markets.
The London connection positions Seattle as a transcontinental hub. It allows Alaska to consolidate freight from Asia-Pacific gateways like Japan and South Korea before distributing across Europe. The carrier simultaneously maintains coverage of remote West Coast communities and Alaska that competitors cannot efficiently serve.
Alaska has already demonstrated cargo demand through its April launch of Seattle-Rome service, moving thousands of pounds of Pacific Northwest clams and shipping crates of espresso equipment to Seattle. A forthcoming Reykjavík route begins May 28. By 2030, Alaska projects at least twelve long-haul international destinations from Seattle, with additional Los Angeles-Guatemala and Los Angeles-Costa Rica routes launching this summer.
