Alaska Air Cargo to Expand 737 Freighter Fleet to Nine Aircraft

Alaska Air Cargo will nearly double its dedicated cargo fleet by adding four 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter aircraft through long-term lease agreements, growing its operation from five to nine freighters. The new aircraft will enter service in the first half of 2027 and focus on North American routes serving Alaska and Hawaii. The expansion complements Alaska Air Group's existing fleet of three 737-700 and two 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversions. The additional capacity will support regional communities while enabling expanded international shipping opportunities for seafood and other commodities. Enhanced Hawaii operations are expected to benefit e-commerce and logistics sectors. The expansion aligns with Alaska Accelerate, the carrier's strategic initiative targeting $150 million in annual cargo profit as it integrates Hawaiian Airlines' operations and pursues international growth from Seattle.
