Alfor's Streamlined Freighter Conversion Cuts Costs, Timelines

Alfor Aviation has introduced a modified passenger-to-freighter conversion approach that leverages existing belly doors rather than installing new main-deck cargo openings. The method could reduce operating expenses by up to 40 percent.

The British-Turkish aviation firm uses a proprietary internal loading system with two elevators to move standard Unit Load Device containers to the main deck. The approach shortens conversion timelines to three months for Airbus A330-300 aircraft, compared with significantly longer periods for traditional conversions.

Alfor plans to establish a conversion facility at Teesside Airport in northeastern England with capacity for 12 aircraft annually starting in 2027. The company is working toward EASA certification and targets first sales next year.

A330-200 conversions follow initial A330-300 work. The approach particularly appeals to e-commerce operators seeking cost-effective cargo solutions on dedicated routes.
