Amazon is deploying 360-degree camera systems on Rivian electric delivery vans to enhance road visibility and detect vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians from all angles. The initiative will reach 50% of the electric fleet by year-end, with real-time driver notifications integrated into the system. The e-commerce giant is simultaneously raising delivery driver compensation by $1 to bolster recruitment and retention efforts. The surround-view camera technology has reduced distracted driving, speeding and traffic violations across Amazon-branded vehicles. The company operates more than 40,000 electric vans domestically. Amazon has committed over $543 million to safety programs benefiting independent delivery contractors, contributing to a 23% reduction in serious vehicle crashes last year. New in-app hazard alerts provide drivers real-time notifications about accidents and road closures. Automatic route adjustments now activate during severe weather without driver intervention.
