Amazon, the sixth-largest containerized importer into the United States, is defending against a class action lawsuit alleging it passed tariff costs to consumers without seeking entitled refunds after the Supreme Court invalidated the duties. The suit, filed May 15 in the Western District of Washington by Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, claims Amazon raised prices to offset tariff expenses, then declined to pursue reimbursement from customs authorities once the levies were struck down. Plaintiffs argue the e-commerce giant violated Washington Consumer Protection Act provisions by retaining price increases while forfeiting recovery options available under law. The litigation targets Amazon's tariff-related pricing decisions during the period when the duties remained in effect.
