Amazon Air has suspended operations with 21 Air following a tragic accident on September 6. Flight 7598 overran a Miami Airport runway, killing five people. The decision came after Amazon completed its review of circumstances surrounding the accident.
The carrier operated approximately eight Boeing 767 freighters for Amazon, which maintains a fleet exceeding 100 aircraft. "Safety has always been our top priority," Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement. Amazon will continue supporting the investigation.
The timing presents operational challenges as Amazon prepares for peak Prime Day demand, when shipment volumes surge significantly. The flight originated from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The 32-year-old aircraft struck ground vehicles after leaving the runway surface. Investigators found one pilot warned of excessive speed during approach, with multiple sink-rate and ground-proximity alerts triggered during descent. A crew member called for go-around just five seconds before the aircraft departed the runway.
