Amazon unveiled a consolidated warehousing service Thursday that allows sellers to ship inventory to a single facility and distribute across eight countries. Global Warehousing and Distribution launches in the U.S. today, with Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Canada joining by year-end. The model cuts storage costs up to 45% versus traditional Amazon Warehousing and Distribution while accelerating replenishment into Fulfillment by Amazon by five days. Inventory pools centrally and moves to specific markets only when demand surfaces. Currently, just 30% of Amazon's selling partners operate in multiple countries, though those that do generate 70% more revenue on average. Amazon also introduced unified supply chain visibility. The system tracks shipments across its fulfillment network from creation through reconciliation. To address barriers to international expansion, the company piloted streamlined compliance testing for toy products. Single submissions now satisfy multiple countries' requirements, reducing compliance costs by up to 60% for participants. Electronics and baby products testing follows by year-end. Amazon plans to extend the approach to more categories in 2027, offering sellers requirements and costs before manufacturing.
