AMD EPYC Chips Power Kodiak's Next-Generation Autonomous Truck Platform

Kodiak will deploy AMD EPYC processors in its seventh-generation autonomous truck platform, marking the first time an autonomous trucking operator has integrated the advanced server-class chips into its hardware. The EPYC processors handle real-time sensor data ingestion and preprocessing from Kodiak's camera, lidar and radar systems before forwarding information to the Kodiak Driver software. The partnership arrives as Kodiak expands driverless operations. The company deployed seven additional driverless trucks in the second quarter, bringing its total fleet to 35 customer-owned vehicles and logging more than 40,000 cumulative paid driverless hours. Kodiak targets public highway driverless operations later this year. The EPYC platform offers 80 PCIe lanes for high-speed data movement and delivers a 25% clock-speed improvement over the previous generation at reduced power consumption—critical for latency-sensitive autonomous driving applications.
