Amtrak announced a leadership transition during a May 22 Board meeting, with President Roger Harris set to depart and General Counsel Byl Herrmann assuming the role on an interim basis. The shift marks another chapter in the railroad's recent pattern of brief executive tenures. Herrmann, who previously served as Corporate Secretary, opened the meeting by confirming a quorum of Board members present. He then ceded control to Board Chair Anthony Coscia. Harris delivered his end-of-session report without addressing his impending departure or reflecting on his tenure. The Board meeting otherwise focused on ridership gains and the pending introduction of new Airo trains to Northeast Corridor and other Amtrak routes. Amtrak's recent leadership has been characterized by recruiting executives from the airline industry, with three of the last four presidents drawn from that sector.
