Arizona Highway Patrol cited a commercial driver Saturday on Loop 202 near Brown Road in Mesa after discovering the operator lacked a commercial driver's license. Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit initiated the stop after observing equipment violations and noting the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The truck and trailer were transporting industrial water hoses at the time of the enforcement action. A passenger in the rear of the vehicle held a valid CDL but was not operating the truck. The driver faced multiple citations including operating without a CDL and failure to wear a seat belt. Authorities emphasized that operating large trucks hauling equipment without proper licensing significantly increases risk to other motorists. Enforcement efforts across the Southwest increasingly target driver qualifications, licensing compliance, and equipment defects through expanded roadside inspections.
