The U.S. Army successfully evaluated Intramotev's TugVolt autonomous battery-electric freight railcar during Operation Sentinal Justice, a large-scale Reserve training exercise at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Mississippi. Soldiers trained on and operated the TugVolt as a switching unit for Department of Defense railcars, moving them between spurs for loading and unloading without a traditional locomotive. When actual military cargo arrived late in the event, personnel deployed the technology to spot and reorder cars. Military trainees rapidly became proficient with the system, which demonstrated capability in real-world defense logistics scenarios. The assessment involved coordination among the 75th Innovation Command, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, Deployment Support Command and its 757th Expeditionary Rail Center, and Mississippi Army National Guard. The evaluation follows Intramotev's commercial partnership with Rail Cargo Group, the freight division of Austrian Federal Railways.
