Andrew Morse is stepping down as publisher and president of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution next month, concluding nearly three and a half years leading a $150 million reinvention effort. Morse arrived in January 2023 with an ambitious goal to grow digital subscribers from 53,000 to 500,000 by year-end 2026. The newspaper discontinued print operations last year to focus entirely on digital expansion. Current subscriber numbers stand at 101,000, falling significantly short of targets. Morse acknowledged the shortfall but maintained the goal remains achievable, requiring additional time. He cited family considerations for his departure, noting his residence in Atlanta while his family remained in New York. Paul Curran, a senior advertising executive with Cox Media, will assume the role effective June 29. The leadership change reflects ongoing challenges that legacy media outlets face navigating digital transformation.
