Atlas Air Worldwide is acquiring a 49% stake in Icelandic carrier Air Atlanta as parent company Apollo Global Management explores strategic options for the cargo airline. The transaction expands Atlas's international footprint and provides access to additional operating certificates and widebody freighter capacity. Under the agreement, Atlas gains the minority stake while its leasing subsidiary Titan Aviation Holdings purchases Air Atlanta's aircraft and leases them back. Air Atlanta operates 14 widebody freighters, including Boeing 747s and 777s, plus four passenger 777s. The deal gives Atlas access to Air Atlanta's Icelandic and Maltese operating platforms, strengthening international deployment capabilities. The transaction underscores the strategic value of multi-jurisdiction ACMI platforms, offering cargo operators greater flexibility on crewing, traffic rights, and market access. Malta has emerged as a competitive jurisdiction for carriers seeking expanded international reach.
