Aurora Deploys Fully Driverless Fleet Across Commercial Routes

Aurora Innovation has launched second-generation hardware designed to scale autonomous trucking operations beyond pilot programs. The Pittsburgh-based company deployed its new platform across 10 commercial freight routes, marking the first time Aurora trucks operate without safety observers in the cab.

The Gen2 hardware is engineered for 1-million-mile operating life and built for volume production rather than limited trials. Built on the International LT Series platform, the new trucks eliminate the passive observer safety measure that accompanied Aurora's initial driverless deployments.

Industry analysts view the empty-cab achievement as critical validation. Morgan Stanley noted the development removes a significant skepticism point among carriers, shippers and investors. The firm positions the technology for commercial deployment at scale in 2027. Aurora closed its internal safety case before launch, confirming the platform meets operational standards for autonomous trucking without human oversight.
