Australia Post launched its first mobile parcel hub and 24/7 parcel lockers at Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin on Monday, providing mail and parcel services to military personnel during Exercise Pitch Black. The three-week multinational air combat exercise draws troops from Australia and 21 allied and partner nations, including the United States. The dedicated facility operates as a mini-post office with on-site postal employees handling services typically unavailable during large-scale defense operations. Free parcel lockers offer personnel around-the-clock access for sending and receiving packages. Mitch Buxton, Australia Post General Manager for Network Optimization, noted that the portable hub is designed to operate in complex environments. Australia Post plans to use operational insights from the exercise to enhance emergency response capabilities during natural disasters, severe weather events, and other major disruptions.
