Chittagong Port Authority is soliciting a private investor to develop a second inland container terminal at Pangaon, offering 22 acres adjacent to an existing facility near Dhaka. The new terminal would expand barge capacity for containers moving between the capital and Chittagong Port, providing shippers an alternative to congested highway routes. Prospective operators must develop and manage the site and provide container-handling services. Bidders or parent companies must demonstrate at least five years' experience loading and discharging containers at ports or inland river terminals, with a minimum annual throughput of 70,000 teu. Medlog Bangladesh, which operates the adjoining 26-acre terminal under a 22-year concession agreement signed in November 2025, intends to bid. According to Medlog's managing director, the operator plans to introduce dangerous goods handling next month and cotton storage by year-end. Local exporters have backed the expansion, citing the need for faster cargo movement and facilities including refrigerated services.
