Bennett Family of Companies has transformed its operations over more than two decades, moving from paper-based driver logs to primarily electronic systems. The carrier operates approximately 4,500 pieces of equipment, with roughly 3,600 trucks including its drayage division. Following the 2017 federal ELD mandate, Bennett achieved approximately 90 percent electronic logging device compliance by adopting Motive as its early ELD provider. The remaining 10 percent of equipment operates on paper logs, qualifying for age-based exemptions. Bennett's transformation proved particularly complex due to its reliance on owner-operators, who initially resisted tracking devices. Dash cam adoption presented greater change-management challenges than electronic logs, requiring a voluntary approach rather than regulatory enforcement. The company now pursues an ambitious three-year roadmap to modernize its legacy systems further.
