BNSF Railway has promoted Craig Morehouse to Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. He assumes leadership of the railroad's entire operating department. Morehouse, a Railway Age 2025 Influential Railroader honoree, takes over the role from Matt Garland, who transitioned to the position in January 2026 after more than two decades with the carrier. In his new position, Morehouse oversees mechanical, engineering, transportation, resource protection, environmental activities, operations support, service design, safety and training functions. Morehouse has served as Vice President of North Region Operations since 2020, managing five divisions spanning the Northwest, Montana, Twin Cities, Powder River and Heartland regions. He joined BNSF in 2006 as a management trainee and spent 11 years in engineering roles before moving into operations. Morehouse holds a civil engineering degree from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management.
