BNSF rolled out RELOAD on June 3, a new service designed to balance efficiency for westbound domestic shipments by reusing imported containers for U.S. West Coast cargo before returning them overseas. The program targets ocean and intermodal carriers, providing access to empty containers across BNSF's network while reducing shipper costs and environmental impact. Jon Gabriel, group vice president of consumer products, called it a strategic capacity solution maximizing equipment balance. Mason George, president of national accounts at IMC Logistics, praised the program's streamlined container management and user-friendly dashboard. RELOAD mirrors BNSF's Matchback program, which pairs empty import containers with export commodities including grain and agricultural products. The service is suited for 20- and 40-foot containers.
