BNSF Posts Safety Milestone, Expands Intermodal Network in 2025

BNSF achieved its safest operational year on record in 2025, with injury frequency declining 7% and rail equipment incidents dropping 13%. The Class I railroad invested $8 billion in capital projects to strengthen infrastructure and service capabilities. The carrier launched coast-to-coast intermodal service with CSX and opened new intermodal facilities in Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City while expanding its Chicago Cicero hub. Agricultural and energy divisions posted record fourth-quarter volumes, with corn, oilseeds, meals and ethanol reaching annual highs. BNSF handled record throughput at Southern California ports and expanded premium intermodal offerings with JB Hunt and new partner GMXT for Quantum de Mexico service. The carrier reduced greenhouse gas emissions 20% since 2018 and targets a 30% reduction by 2030.
