The Bank of Japan maintained its benchmark interest rate following an 8-1 vote, while signaling that underlying inflation has achieved its 2% target. The decision opens the possibility of a rate hike in December. The yen sustained its gains after the announcement, with strategists attributing strength in the currency to the BOJ's inflation assessment and forward guidance. The central bank also accelerated its exchange-traded fund sales program, increasing the annual pace to approximately ¥860 billion, or $5.5 billion.
