Bot Auto Commits to U.S.-Based Remote Assistance Operations

Bot Auto, a Houston-based autonomous trucking company, announced Thursday that it will keep all remote assistance operators within the United States. The company operates a Level 4 fleet and is expanding its autonomous trucking services. Remote assistants provide communication and coordination support during incidents, facilitating contact with law enforcement and first responders while performing no actual driving functions. The vehicles operate autonomously at all times. Remote operators monitor vehicle status, relay cargo and routing information, and can remotely actuate functions including hazard lights and emergency shutdowns. The commitment to domestic staffing comes after a Senate hearing in February where Waymo disclosed operating overseas remote assistance centers. A subsequent investigation found Waymo was the only developer among seven surveyed using foreign remote operators. According to Brian Moore, Bot Auto's chief policy officer, the domestic-staffing decision is critical to building a resilient American supply chain.
