Brussels Airport handled 73,964 tonnes of cargo in April, with full-freighter volumes surging 23.5% during the month. The growth was bolstered by expanded Asia-bound shipments. Express services climbed 1.9%, while trucked cargo grew 5%. The gains offset weakness in belly cargo, which fell 8% primarily from canceled Middle East passenger flights. Asia and North America emerged as the strongest import regions alongside Africa, the airport said. These same markets drove export demand, with North America and Africa posting particular increases. The April performance aligns with broader 2026 trends. The airport reported 6.4% volume growth across the first quarter, with integrator cargo expanding more than 9% year-over-year.
