Congress released the BUILD America 250 Act, directing $240 billion in federal funding across five years to modernize freight and transportation infrastructure. The surface transportation bill earmarks $110 billion for highways and bridges, with $40 billion dedicated specifically to bridge repairs and replacements. Rail receives $102 billion—the largest federal rail investment since Amtrak's founding—to reduce track backlogs and expand intercity corridors. Aviation gets $25 billion for airport upgrades and emissions reductions. Port infrastructure receives $17 billion for dredging and terminal modernization. The Port Infrastructure Development Program will receive $550 million, while Maritime Administration programs total $1.5 billion. The legislation comes as the current five-year surface transportation authorization of $1.2 trillion expires in September.
