The California Air Resources Board is launching the California Clean Fuel Reward, a $1 billion initiative to subsidize electric medium- and heavy-duty truck purchases statewide. Beginning June 26, rebates will be available through authorized retailers for both public and private fleet operators. Incentive amounts range from $7,500 for Class 2b vehicles to $120,000 for Class 8 trucks exceeding 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Only new battery-electric commercial vehicles registered in California qualify, including semis, drayage trucks, delivery vans and box trucks. Hybrid and fuel cell vehicles are ineligible. The program is funded through California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard. It will distribute $250 million in rebates this year, with over $1 billion expected through 2030. The initiative positions California as the nation's largest utility rebate program for electric commercial trucks.
