The California Air Resources Board is rolling out a new $1 billion rebate initiative to accelerate adoption of electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks across the state. The California Clean Fuel Reward program is currently open to retailer enrollment, with incentives available to authorized retailers beginning June 26 for both public and private fleet purchases. Class 8 vehicles over 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight qualify for the maximum $120,000 rebate, while smaller Class 2b trucks receive $7,500. The program exclusively supports new battery-electric medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles registered in California, including drayage trucks, semis, box trucks and delivery vans. Hybrid and fuel cell vehicles are ineligible. Funded through Low Carbon Fuel Standard revenue, the program will distribute $250 million this year with over $1 billion available through 2030, positioning it as the nation's largest utility rebate program for electric trucks.
