Police in Greenfield, Indiana, arrested a California truck driver after recovering nearly $2.9 million in stolen tungsten oxide powder on Interstate 70. Deepak Kumar, 31, of Fresno, California, was apprehended June 27 following a traffic stop at mile marker 104 west of the Greenfield exit. Officers responded to an alert about a wanted semi tractor-trailer traveling eastbound. The vehicle was connected to a cargo theft in Pennsylvania on June 25. Authorities said Kumar used fraudulent documents to obtain the shipment of approximately 40,000 pounds of tungsten oxide powder destined for Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in Japan. A search warrant confirmed the trailer contained the stolen cargo. Kumar faces theft-related charges in Pennsylvania, including unlawful taking of movable property and criminal use of a communication facility. The Hancock County Prosecutor's Office will determine whether additional Indiana charges apply. A Mitsubishi Materials representative retrieved the shipment on Sunday.
