Economists have significantly downgraded their growth projections for Canada in 2026 following an unexpected economic contraction early in the year. The revised forecasts reflect concerns about the trajectory of the Canadian economy. The downward revisions underscore mounting uncertainty about domestic demand and business investment. Despite the pessimistic outlook for Canada, some segments of the North American logistics sector are bucking the trend. FedEx Freight, operating as a standalone company, projects profit margins will grow by more than 9% in the latter half of 2026, up more than one percentage point from last year's growth rate. Meanwhile, container traffic at major U.S. ports remains strong, with the Port of Long Beach recording 40% year-over-year cargo growth in May despite broader economic uncertainty.
