Canada Post will convert 485,000 addresses across 37 communities to community mailbox delivery in 2027, adding to 136,000 addresses already slated for conversion in late 2026 or early 2027. Halifax, Ontario and Calgary are among affected regions. The restructuring aims to restore financial stability after the postal carrier posted a $1.15 billion loss in 2025 and a $147 million loss in the first quarter. The company has hemorrhaged money for eight consecutive years. Consolidating delivery to centralized neighborhood locations significantly reduces costs compared to individual address service. The shift also improves security by securing mail and parcels in locked boxes. More than 50,000 letter carriers ratified a new labor agreement this month, clearing the way for operational reforms. The five-year conversion program will affect 4 million addresses currently receiving door-to-door service. Nearly 75 percent of Canadian addresses already use centralized delivery methods.
