Cando Rail & Terminals has opened an operations base in Toronto for ONexpress Transportation Partners at the former Canadian Pacific Railway Obico intermodal yard in Etobicoke. The facility houses two GP38-3 locomotives from Metro East Industries in East St. Louis, Illinois, both equipped with distributed power capabilities. The yard also features 14 new flatcars built by Ebenezer Railcar Services for maintenance-of-way operations. Cando is recruiting engineers, conductors, and assistant superintendents for the Toronto location, separate from its existing Vaughan operations. The company manages the CPKC Vaughan Intermodal Terminal. This expansion follows the January 2025 cancellation of ONexpress Transportation Partners' GO Transit and Union-Pearson Express operations contract with Metrolinx.
