Recent enforcement actions have removed only a fraction of trucking capacity, setting the stage for sustained rate increases through peak season and into early 2027.

Carrier pricing power strengthened this week, with less-than-truckload operators achieving record rates in the third quarter and further gains expected by year-end. Flatbed linehaul rates held firm around $2.65 per mile, reflecting consistent demand pressure across segments.

Diesel fuel costs pose an additional headwind for fleets, with energy executives warning that refining and pipeline constraints could keep prices elevated well into spring 2027. The combination of limited truck supply and higher operating costs is expected to sustain carrier advantages in rate negotiations through the cyclical peak period.

Industry observers suggest the current market conditions reflect a multi-year demand cycle that will continue supporting higher freight values.
