A sophisticated scheme targeting legitimate carrier credentials has prompted Global Protection Corp. to overhaul its verification procedures. The company fell victim to a cyber-enabled theft in April involving approximately 103,000 units of condoms and lubricant bound for Walmart. Attackers deployed malware through a phishing email sent to a trucking carrier, then used compromised credentials to impersonate the company on a DAT listing. The perpetrators hired legitimate independent drivers with correct shipment documentation. Global Protection's Lynn, Massachusetts warehouse loaded the freight without suspicion. While en route to Pennsylvania, criminals redirected the trucks to a Bronx warehouse. The theft went undetected until the scheduled receiver reported the shipment never arrived. The FBI later informed Global Protection that an arrest had been made. Director of Operations Ryan Findling acknowledged the company's previous verification measures proved insufficient, prompting implementation of additional safeguards across its freight network.
