Hong Kong's air cargo sector is pivoting toward intermodal connectivity. Cathay Cargo launched a refrigerated barge link to Dongguan and extended its Air-Land Fresh Lane into Macao, creating an integrated perishables network spanning air, land, and sea transport. This positions Hong Kong as a regional gateway for manufacturers and consumers across the Greater Bay Area.

Hactl's newly appointed CEO Frosti Lau endorsed the strategy, calling intermodal connections with mainland China a significant growth opportunity for Hong Kong. "How can we make sure that the handling part may be cheaper in China, but still make use of the great network that Hong Kong Airport can support," Lau said. He described the initiative as nearly a mission for the territory's cargo community.

Lau joined Hactl in June after more than two decades with Cathay Pacific. He flagged the multimodal approach as critical to Hong Kong's competitive positioning.
