Cathay Cargo is deploying additional freighter capacity across four North American gateways to meet strong demand for semiconductor and data-centre equipment shipments. The carrier will operate five weekly flights between Hong Kong and Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and Mexico from September through mid-December 2026. Jonathan Ng, head of cargo hub operations and development at Cathay, noted that balancing supply with demand remains the carrier's top priority. In parallel, Cathay's regional subsidiary Air Hong Kong will deploy a leased Airbus A330 passenger-to-freighter conversion to strengthen fourth-quarter capacity for general cargo. Recent data underscores the strategy's timing, with Asia-North America air cargo demand growing 13.2% year-over-year in August, marking seven consecutive months of gains.
