Cathay Cargo is shifting its Mumbai operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while cargo refurbishment work takes place at the original facility. The Hong Kong carrier did not specify whether the relocation would be temporary or permanent.
The shift comes as Cathay Cargo restructures its Asia-Europe freighter network due to Middle East disruptions. The airline previously routed these services through Dubai but suspended those operations when regional conflict escalated. Direct flights on the route proved payload-constrained, prompting the carrier to seek alternative stopover points.
Astana, Kazakhstan now serves as an intermediate stop for European-bound freighters through the summer season. Cathay Cargo said it hopes to resume Dubai operations in the medium term. The carrier will restart Riyadh service on August 1. It intends to launch passenger flights to Almaty in early 2027.
