U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a major narcotics shipment at the Pharr International Bridge on June 24, confiscating suspected cocaine valued at $3.7 million. Officers conducting secondary inspection of a commercial tractor-trailer declared as carrying cucumbers deployed a canine unit, which alerted to the cargo. Subsequent nonintrusive imaging revealed irregularities within the trailer. A physical examination uncovered 112 packages containing 126 units of suspected cocaine concealed inside the vehicle. CBP seized the narcotics along with the tractor and trailer. Homeland Security Investigations opened a criminal investigation into the matter. Hidalgo Port Director Carlos Rodriguez stated that CBP officers remain on duty 24/7, employing every resource to detect and deter those who attempt to exploit the border.
