Customs and Border Protection officers discovered nearly 1,600 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a commercial tomatillo shipment at California's Otay Mesa port of entry on October 14. The narcotics were valued at approximately $5 million and destined for delivery within the United States. Federal authorities subsequently canceled the truck driver's visa under Section 212(a)(2)(C)(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which targets individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. CBP announced the seizure on October 16 alongside the Office of Field Operations, Border Patrol, Air and Marine Operations, and Homeland Security Investigations. The agency declined to disclose what prompted the inspection, how officers concealed the contraband, or the motor carrier's identity. Investigators have not publicly established whether the driver knowingly participated in transporting the narcotics or identified other individuals potentially involved.
