The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported no domestic hantavirus cases Thursday while monitoring 41 individuals across the country. Following a cruise ship outbreak, the agency said public health risk remains low. Monitored individuals include repatriated passengers in Nebraska and Atlanta, those who disembarked before the outbreak was identified, and people potentially exposed during air travel with symptomatic cases. The CDC has advised the 41 people to remain home and isolate for 42 days. The World Health Organization has confirmed 11 hantavirus cases linked to the outbreak, with eight confirmed through laboratory testing and three deaths. The Andes strain involved spreads poorly between people, unlike Covid-19 or measles. However, public health officials warn additional confirmed cases may emerge due to the virus's lengthy incubation period.
