Air cargo volumes from Central and South America jumped 19% in the week ending April 26 as flower shipments ramped up for Mother's Day celebrations in North America. Colombia and Ecuador drove the surge, with blooms destined for US and Canadian markets. Capacity from the region expanded 8% to accommodate the seasonal spike. Avianca Cargo transported more than 21,000 tons of flowers and accounted for 42% of Colombian exports northbound. The carrier operated up to 24 daily departures during peak periods, moving roughly 24 million stems in 24 hours. Avianca deployed nine dedicated freighters plus leased capacity, dedicating 42% of operations to flowers versus the typical 30%. LATAM Cargo moved 24,400 tons from South American hubs in Bogotá, Quito, and Medellín, marking its fourth consecutive year leading regional floral air transport.
