Changi Airport Posts Nearly 10% Cargo Growth in Q2 on Semiconductor Demand

Singapore Changi Airport handled 567,000 tonnes of airfreight in the second quarter, marking a nearly 10% year-over-year increase driven by strong semiconductor and electronics shipments. Growth materialized across all cargo flows, with China, Hong Kong, Australia, India and the US representing the airport's top five markets for the quarter. Tianjin Air Cargo launched services between Singapore and Haikou on June 15, joining the carrier roster. Chinese express giant SF selected Changi as its first overseas hub to tap Southeast and South Asian expansion opportunities. The airport is pursuing capacity growth toward 5.4 million tonnes annually through infrastructure investments, including the planned Changi East Industrial Zone launching in the mid-2030s. The new zone will support airfreight, air express and maintenance operations. Air cargo demand climbed 4% in 2025, supported by gains in exports, imports and transhipments.
