China has committed to ordering 200 Boeing jets in a significant breakthrough for U.S.-China aviation trade. The agreement came during high-level discussions between American and Chinese leadership. Boeing has not secured a major order from China in nearly a decade, during which the country has favored rival Airbus for aircraft purchases. Wall Street analysts had anticipated a larger order, with some projecting China could acquire as many as 500 aircraft. Boeing Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg previously signaled openness to meaningful opportunities from a U.S.-China summit, though he refrained from specifying order quantities at that time. The manufacturer did not immediately confirm details regarding which aircraft models would comprise the purchase, though industry observers noted Boeing's 737 Max could represent a substantial portion of the deal.
