French container line CMA CGM and New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak established United Ports LLC, a joint venture to expand the carrier's global marine terminal network. CMA CGM retains a 75% stake and operational control while Stonepeak takes a 25% minority position under the $4 billion initiative. The partnership launches with 10 strategic port assets spanning four continents, including Fenix Marine Services in Los Angeles, Port Liberty facilities in New York and Bayonne, Brazilian terminals in Santos, Spanish operations in Valencia and Bilbao, India's Nhava Sheva facility, and Asia-Pacific locations in Taiwan and Vietnam. CMA CGM plans to reinvest the $2.4 billion capital proceeds into its core shipping, air cargo, trucking, and logistics operations. The move reflects growing private equity appetite for hard-to-replicate port infrastructure assets that connect global trade networks.
